People were really acting like the world was coming to an end. Grocery stores were crazy as people were stocking up like they wouldn't be able to leave their houses for weeks. We had formula, diapers, goldfish crackers and some alcohol so I felt like we were in good shape for at least a few days. :)
For all of the hype, this storm really did live up to it. It was pretty intense. Lakeshore Drive closed down and there were like 1,000 cars stranded! That's crazy. People were stuck in their cars for 12 hours......12 hours!?! Here in our cozy condo life wasn't all that different. I took some pics to try and capture it (they are all from my window so not the greatest shots).
I took this one while I was waiting for Eric to get home. Only my husband had a work dinner the evening of the blizzard. Ridiculous.
We woke up to quite a bit of snow and it wasn't over yet. And Eric of course had a 6:30am meeting so I got to watch him trudging through the huge mounds of snow and attempting to find a route to take. He eventually got to our street and went from there. It was quite a sight (I wish I took a pic!). The wind was howling, it was pitch black outside, and he had to push through a 4-foot drift in front of our front door. I guess that will wake you up in the early morning when you're a little drowsy!
And I told Josh, guess we won't be able to forget this birthday for some time.
The El was still running!! It never stopped during the entire storm. Yeah for public transportation!

| See the cardinal in the tree? It was such a random thing, I was glad I snapped a pic. |
Later in the day when the snow stopped coming down, some people snuck out of their houses to try and dig their way out of the snow. Here's my neighbor shoveling away. Note, he's in the middle of the street.
While he was shoveling away, the kids and I were trying to stay warm!
Avery found a box of banana bread mix in the cupboard and ran up to me saying "let's cook, let's cook!". Well, I had to oblige.
What was interesting was after we were done, just like a pro, Avery grabbed the spoon to lick the batter. When did she learn this? Can it be inherited?? Or is Grammy working some things behind the scenes?
The next day (Thursday), life seemed to come back to normal. Our streets were plowed, sidewalks somewhat cleared and the alley....well the alley still needed some work but Chicago was alive again! And miraculously people didn't have to live off canned food for weeks!!
I'm sure we all have our blizzard stories. Ours honestly wasn't all that exciting. I barely left the house for 2 days....actually I didn't leave the house for 2 days....but we survived!!
